Vimi Wellness founder Zhang Xinyuan and U.S. adolescent education expert Chelsey Goodan held a three-day “Healing the Inner Girl” workshop in Hangzhou, China, from August 21 to 23. Nearly 20 mothers and daughters attended Goodan’s first event in China. The program followed a month-long online book club led by Zhang, involving hundreds of families across six live sessions. Goodan has worked in adolescent girls’ education for 18 years, while Zhang has worked in relationship and women’s health for 17 years.
Workshop Focuses On Communication
The workshop covered psychological safety, body image, reflective listening, and Goodan’s 3R tool: Release labels imposed by others, Reclaim your own definitions, and Reframe stigmatized words. Participants wrote negative body labels on one model and body parts they loved on another during an interactive exercise.
Chelsey Goodan, U.S. adolescent education expert and author, said:
“Adolescents observe everything,”
Goodan guided mother-daughter pairs through reflective-listening exercises in which mothers restated their daughters’ key words and validated their feelings. Participants also tore up paper labels they had written during the workshop.
A First Visit To China
Goodan’s workshops have previously taken place in the United States, Australia, the Caribbean, and Europe. Her book, Underestimated: The Wisdom and Power of Teenage Girls, was a USA Today bestseller.
Zhang’s online book club ran in July, and Vimi Wellness said parents used the sessions to reconsider adolescent education before the Hangzhou event.
Shared Messages In Hangzhou
During an interactive session, Zhang wrote down labels she had once carried, including “disobedient” and “ambitious.” The three-day program closed with participants reflecting on their mother-daughter relationships.
Zhang Xinyuan, founder of Vimi Wellness, said:
“Your disobedience is your unique light,”
