HŌM Furnishings has introduced four handcrafted meditation seats for practitioners seeking floor-based seating as their bodies age. Founded by Ashland, Oregon furniture designer Brad Boucher, the company’s collection places users about 9 to 11 inches off the ground, depending on the model. The seats are made from solid Acacia hardwood and priced from $249.99 to $399.99. They are currently available.

Seating for Longtime Practice

The collection is designed for people who find traditional floor cushions harder to use over time. HŌM’s seats elevate the hips while retaining a connection to the floor, with curved rocker feet intended to help the pelvis find an angle and an open front for the legs and feet.

Brad Boucher, founder at HŌM Furnishings, said:

“At a certain point, it became obvious that discomfort wasn't a virtue. Strain wasn't deepening the practice — it was shortening it.”

Four Designs for Home Use

The Bodhi is the original HŌM seat and Boucher’s daily meditation seat. The Self Shelf has folding legs for portability, while the Chairish is stackable for shared living spaces and storage. The Epiphany has a lower center of gravity and a handwoven seat.

Brad Boucher, founder at HŌM Furnishings, said:

“The seat is meant to support practice in a way that gets no attention. Like the ground itself.”

A Dedicated Place to Sit

HŌM positions its collection between a traditional meditation chair and a floor cushion. Each seat is designed in Ashland, Oregon, where Boucher developed the collection through years of prototyping in his workshop.

Brad Boucher, founder at HŌM Furnishings, said:

“We've spent years thinking about what the body actually needs to sit well while preserving the essential qualities of traditional meditation posture. The goal isn't to make meditation easier. It's to remove unnecessary obstacles to doing it.”
