JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa has completed a renovation of 524 guest rooms and 51 suites in Tucson, Arizona. The suite total is now 51, an increase of 16, with new Family Bunk Bed Suites, 13 new Junior Suites and four new Sonoran Starr Suites. The resort’s revised rooms use colors, materials and artwork inspired by the Sonoran Desert, Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park. Further updates to its market and retail areas are planned for this fall.

Desert Led Room Design

The rooms and suites combine Southwest architecture with natural hardwoods, patinated metals, canvas and mountain-inspired textiles. Beds have been repositioned closer to the views, while seating nooks with trundle sofas can be used for relaxing, working, dining or additional guests.

Bathrooms now include walk-in showers, stone finishes and double vanities. The design also incorporates custom artwork inspired by native pottery.

Christy Thompson, design lead and Principal at Ellis Adams Group, said:

“The guest room transformation was designed to honor the rugged beauty and layered history of Starr Pass while creating accommodations that feel welcoming, refined, and deeply connected to the surrounding desert. By blending Southwest architecture with the warmth and simplicity of nature-inspired living, we created spaces that celebrate craftsmanship, comfort, and a genuine sense of place.”

New Suite Categories

The Family Bunk Bed Suites pair a king bed with twin bunk beds. Families can also book the JW Camper Experience, which includes a child-sized play camper, campfire, sleeping bag, milk and chocolate chip cookies, an activity book and crayons, with optional keepsakes.

The four Sonoran Starr Suites each offer 1,275 square feet of living space and an 868-square-foot private terrace. Each has a private king bedroom, two bathrooms, living area, wet bar, dining space, optional connecting guest room and telescope.

Property Updates Continue

The room project follows renovation work across more than 115,000 square feet of meeting and event space, as well as updates to the resort’s 27-hole golf course and clubhouse. The property also has a pool complex with a lazy river, waterslide and adults-only pool area.

The resort offers astronomer-led stargazing, guided hiking, Native American morning prayer rituals and a nightly tequila toast. It is owned by Southwest Value Partners.

Dean Callahan, General Manager at JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa, said:

“Our goal is for guests to arrive in awe and depart inspired. Our award winning associates are devoted to helping our guests slow down, connect, and create lasting memories while developing a more personal connection to Tucson and the surrounding landscape. With these beautifully and thoughtfully completed updates, we're better able to deliver that promise now… and for the next generation of visitors.”
